Here is my 2010 Camp Recount
2010 Camp
I turned to my clock to see what the date was,Yah it’s the 3rd of May, Camp Motutapu here i come
Once I arrived at half moon bay people started to put there bags on this trailer but it was only for the parents, I had to go and find my class to tick my name off .About five minutes later I finally found them they where behind a truck .I could not find my name so I had to start from the top and work my way down ah there we go Keanu Paki, tick
After that we took the ferry to Rangitoto, the ferry took 40 min to get there, once we got off the ferry we had to go for a very long walk, It was like 6.5km.
When we got to the camp, we got to finish off our lunch that we got from our parents, after we finished our lunch, we got to do our first activity which was orienteering
Orienteering was fun at first but then it started to get a little boring, cause we found mostly all of them in about 20 min, so then there was nothing to do but wait.
Next we did sailing, It was awesome cause you could go up to more than 5km , also you had two people in the boat so it was really easy to steer and to control but if you don’t know how to turn then you will most likely capsize.
After we finished all our activities it was time for dinner, we had a very delicious dinner, we had mince with beans and corn chip, in other word we had nachos.
Once we had finished our yummy dinner it was time for our night time activity. My group was doing hall activities, hall activities was really fun but you get really sweaty.
When we had finished our night time activities it was time to write in our diaries of what we did today. After that was all done it was time for a nice warm milo. Finally it was time for bed we always had to go to bed early, the lights went out at 9.30 pm.
The next day we had to get up before 7.30 am but the lights go on at 7.00 am. Time for breakfast we got to pick out of two cereals - corn flakes and rice bubbles. I had rice bubbles with chocolate milk yummy, yummy! For hot food I had one piece of toast and for spreads I put jam on it.
Then it was time to do our first activity. Mine was raft building , I heard that raft building was a competitive activity. For raft building you have to put a lot of stuff together like bamboo sticks, plastic barrels and a lot of rope, Once he had finished building your raft you had to go and test it on the water and whoever raft floats the best and does not break wins.
When you had finished your first activity it was time for morning tea, Every morning tea we always use to have cookies.
Next after morning tea it was time to go on our second activity. Mine was rock climbing. I made it up both of he walls in rock climbing. But make sure when you are doing rock climbing never wear short shorts because if you do you will get a really big wedgie.
Yum, yum, yum it was time for lunch. Today for lunch we got to have garlic bread with luncheon, lettuce, onion and some salad with some cheese.
Then it was our third activity. We got to do the confidence course. The confidence course is all about teamwork. If you don’t do teamwork you can’t pass this activity but if you use a lot of teamwork you pass it no sweat.
After that it was teatime. Like morning tea we got to have a variety of cookies.
Last but not least it was our fourth activity. It was kayaking. Kayaking is really awesome because you get to play alot of cool games like soccer and race but if you doing something on the water your responsibility to put away the gear.
Like always it was dinner time and tonight we got to have sticky chicken. Sticky chicken it is chicken with peas, potatoes, carrots and corn. For desert we had a nice sundae with hundreds and thousands sprinkles.
Next was night time activities again but not the same one a different one. We got to spotlight. For spotlight you had to be a good hider and a very good sneaker. If you don’t find a good hiding place you will get spotted easily and you would have to go back to the dinner area.
Then it was diary time we always have to spend around 10 to 15 minutes writing down what we did today. After that it was supper time again. We had more Milo and more cookies. If you did not want supper you could go straight to bed or you could go do some reading before the lights went out.
We had to wake up early again but even though we woke at 7.00 am people always seemed to wake up at 6.00 am. Ding dong ding dong as they shook the bell telling everyone to come and have breakfast now. I had the same breakfast that I had yesterday. Today was our last day for our activities because on Thursday we get to pick our own activities. At the end of our activities today they will tell us which activities we can pick.
My first group activity was high ropes. High ropes are really scary because your more than 10 metres off the ground and all you can do is try to balance on a very long log. Next was morning tea again, like always it was cookies.
After that we were going on a gun walk. The gun walk takes you to an old military base that use to fire guns and use to store bullets. Also there was an old canteen and old hiding places where the bombs use to hit. Lunchtime this time we had macaroni and cheese.
Thirdly it was time for archery. Archery is really awesome. It was my favourite activity out of all of them because we got to shot bows and arrows.
Last but not least was survival. Survival is like a military course like what the army use to do but more fun. You got to build puzzles, run through hoops and get muddy.
It’s that time yep dinner time, I wonder what’s for dinner tonight. Yeah we are having spaghetti bolognaise. After dinner it was time to pick our activities that we wanted to do. I picked Frisbee golf, movie and flying fox.
Tonight’s the last night for night-time activities and we were doing the bermer trial. The bermer trial is not good if you are scared of the dark. You get to hold onto a rope that’s dirty and has mustard on it. It’s very short and frightening but once its all over it is very fun. When you have finished the bermer trail you have to go straight to the dining room to write in your camp diary. After you are finished you can go straight to bed.
The next morning I woke up early to get changed for my first activity which was Frisbee golf, but before that starts we have to have breakfast.
Our first activity for the day was Frisbee golf. Frisbee golf is an alright game if you want to hang out with your mates but if you go by yourself with no friends then it would be really boring.
Next it was movie time. The movie is really great to relax and chill. The movies you get to pick are Alvin & the Chipmunks, High School Musical and Bridge to Terabithia. Then it was time for the flying fox.
Never go on the flying fox on your last session because it is really cold and it freezing once you get out. Ding dong ding dong that means it’s time for dinner. Tonight we had roast – delicious. After dinner we had to go to the 2010 Camp Motutapu Concert. It was very humorous and creative.
Tonight is the last night of camp and we all had to go to sleep early for the big clean up tomorrow.
Once we got up we could start packing our bags to load on the truck. Once we finished packing our bags we had to put it on the court. We had to go for our last breakfast.
We took group photos for memories of a great and fantastic camp. What an awesome experience and it was more exciting for me as I had my dad with me.
What an enjoyable camp. I would highly recommend this camp site to all my friends and family.
Thanks Somerville Intermediate.
